We are entering our eighth year as an organization, and the goals of FOMCÂ of restoring and revitalizing the water, wildlife and natural environment of the One Mile Creek watershed are being met little by little each year. It has been a gradual process, but nevertheless tremendous progress in the groundwork has been accomplished.
A full FOMC summary report 2003-2009 was emailed to all our members in October last year. In that report one thing that stands out is the completion of the 68 page One Mile Creek Landowner Stewardship Guide, printed in September 2009. The stewardship guide is being hand delivered now to over 260 landowners by FOMC volunteers within the watershed, both abutting the creek and within a 30 meter buffer zone.
At the beginning of the FOMC organization many of you asked “what can we do as individual landowners in improving our creek?” This prompted us at the executive to ask the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority for their support and expertise in compiling a concise stewardship guide book.
The guide was developed especially for residents to provide us with information about the watershed we live in, how our actions can impact the environment, and provide us with options for better environmental decision making.
The work in improving and conserving our natural heritage – our backyard, is a continuous effort that we all must contribute to. We all need to do our bit!
In keeping with our goals, we again invite you all to become members, or renew your membership, as your continued support is needed.
It is so important that we work together – as a community we can make a big impact. Please send your Membership dues today.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Klara Young-Chin
