    NOTL gives awards to two environment volunteers

    Friends of One Mile Creek congratulates the two citizens recognized by the Town of Niagara on the Lake for their contribution to protecting the environment. Lord Mayor Volunteer Awards in seven categories were presented to 15 citizens, including Sandra O'Connor and Finn Madsen, for their contributions to the community.

    Decision on development proposal for 373 Victoria Street delayed

    Niagara on the Lake Town Council has deferred consideration until its Sept. 16 meeting the consideration of the proposed Zoning By-Law Amendment to facilitate the severance of 373 Victoria Street to create two separate lots for single detached residential purposes. The development application concerns Friends of One Mile Creek because about 57% of the property lies within the One Mile Creek floodplain.

    FOMC welcomes Gayle Wood as interim CAO of NPCA

    The Friends of One Mile Creek (FOMC) welcomes the appointment by the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) of Gayle Wood as Interim Chief Administrative Officer/Secretary-Treasurer effective March 1, 2019. Wood was appointed by the newly installed NPCA board of directors for a term of 5 months, while the board searches for a permanent CAO with the help of an external hiring firm.

    Native plant list for Niagara on the Lake

    Suggestions for plants to be grown on the banks of One Mile Creek. Called a riparian buffer, the plants improve water quality by slowing the flow of water over the land, allowing it to infiltrate into the soil. Buffers also provide habitat, increasing biodiversity. The vegetation removes sediment and pollution, such as fertilizers, pesticides, bacteria and even road salt.
